- Multiple men in the games industry accused of sexual abuse or assault | PC Gamer
- A still from the promotional video for Soule Symphony No. 1.
- (Image credit: Soule Symphony No. 1)
- On Monday, Tetrageddon developer Nathalie Lawhead published a blog post about her time working at an unnamed developer in Vancouver. Titled 'Calling out my rapist', it alleges that composer Jeremy Soule raped Lawhead after meeting her at a party and striking up a friendship. In the days since Lawhead made the allegation against Soule, more members of the industry have come forward to share their own experiences of abuse, accusing several industry men of unwanted advances and sexual assault.
- Lawhead says she met Soule when she was struggling with burnout from her job and problems with immigration, and the composer was someone she was able to connect with as a fellow artist. She wanted a friend and they were not in a romantic relationship, but she says their conversations took a turn and he started to become misogynistic and sexist.
- "He talked about the mystical power women hold over men with sex," she writes. "How men are helpless and they need sex. How he needs sex, and a relationship, so he can write his music. He talked about how composing is sexual, and how he will write about sex as inspiration in his music. He talked about how performing music is very sexual. He wrote songs about women that he had relationships with this way. What he does to women, is what inspires his music."
- Lawhead alleges that Soule indirectly threatened her job, and his relationship with the company's CEO and others in the industry made her worried about jeopardising her position, so she tried to maintain the friendship while declining his advances.
- "He made advances on me and I explained that I didn't want this and wanted a friendship," she says. "He was very threatening, and didn't listen. He made it clear that it's 'him or bust.' He raped me."
- Lawhead's blog post also details her time working on an ARG and other projects, including emails between her and the companies she was working with at the time. They show her fighting to get paid for her work at a job where she felt exploited and pressured into staying. Eventually she was let go.
- Since the blog post was published, other members of the industry have come forward and spoken publicly about alleged abusers. Goddess Mode writer Zo Quinn tweeted out a post that accused Night in the Woods developer Alec Holowka of abuse, explaining that reading Lawhead's post inspired her to share something she's been silent about for almost her whole career.
- Quinn accuses Holowka of abusing her and says he was "regularly mean and violent". She had been staying with him after he invited her to come to Winnipeg and start an indie house with friends, but she says he convinced her to talk those friends out of sharing a place, leaving her isolated.
- "I was scared to leave," she says. "I was scared to tell anyone. He'd act normal when other people were around and lay into me as soon as we were alone, then apologise and say how much he needed and loves me." Her post alleges further instances of emotional and physical abuse, and she says she often had to hide from Holowka in the bathroom.
- Eventually, another friend had to help her leave. Quinn alleges that not long after, Holowka banned her from an indie games community that he ran, before then banning himself. That was nearly a decade ago, but Quinn says she was too afraid to speak out and had to skip the last couple of GDCs because she "could risk being around him or seeing everyone clap for him on stage."
- Holowka has left social media since Quinn published her post, but Scott Benson, who worked with Holowka on Nights in the Wood, made a statement on Twitter on behalf of the studio, saying they will no longer work with him going forward.
- pic.twitter.com/a2d9nAn1j9August 28, 2019
- Night in the Woods' publisher, Finji, also made a statement, saying it was cancelling the signing event at PAX West and that it was still "processing" the accusations. I've also reached out to Quinn, Holowka, Lawhead and Soule, and will update the story with any responses.
- The momentum generated by Lawhead's post has inspired others, beyond Quinn, to come forward about their experiences with various industry figures this week. Some of the allegations don't name names, while others call out specific individuals. The allegations share a lot of similarities, with stories of men taking advantage of vulnerable women who believed they were being helped by friends.
- As far as we know, no criminal charges have been brought against any of the men accused in this week's posts. For her part, Quinn says she favours rehabilitation over punishment and doesn't "wish ill will on anyone."

- Destiny 2 Steam transfers have begun | PC Gamer
- The great Destiny 2 changeover has begun: Bungie's big shooter doesn't go live on Steam until October 1, but you can get your account ready for the move as of right now.
- The process is simple. Go to bungie.net and click "get started," then select the account you want to move over (apparently you can also transfer your PS4 or Xbox One accounts if you want) and link them as prompted. That'll take you to an account review screen to confirm that this is something you actually want to do; assuming it is, click "continue," agree to the terms, make really super-duper sure you want to do this (again), confirm with Steam that this is all above-board, and then finally, you are done.
- There's no hurry to get the transfer done, but you will want to do it: After October 1, Destiny 2 will be gone from Battle.net, and so will your account.

- Death Stranding To Feature "Very Easy Mode" Designed For Movie Fans
- Source: Game Informer News
- Death Stranding's November 8 release date draws near, and while we still don't have a clear idea of what to expect from the gameplay, director Hideo Kojima is saying everyone should be able to complete it. Kojima took to Twitter to reveal Death Stranding will launch with a "Very Easy Mode," which is designed for people who may not be well versed in games.
- Normally there's only Easy Mode, but we added Very Easy Mode for movie fans since we have real actors like Norman, Mads, Lea starred in. Even Yano-san who never completed the 1st stage of PAC-MAN, was able to complete the game on Very Easy Mode ððð...ð
https://t.co/fMZmuZltZw
- '-- HIDEO_KOJIMA (@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN) September 6, 2019Kojima is likely right in his assumption that notable actors like Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and L(C)a Seydoux may draw in some movie fans who may not be up to speed on the latest in games. On top of that, Very Easy Mode will be a great introduction point for people who are jumping into games for the first time. We'll likely have to wait for the game's launch to learn how Very Easy Mode changes the gameplay and difficulty. Now will there be a Very Easy Mode for figuring out the story?
- Blizzard Sues Chinese Devs Over "Massive Infringement" Of Warcraft License
- Source: GameSpot - Game News
- GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.
- Blizzard Entertainment is suing a number of companies and individuals involved in the making of the free-to-play PC and mobile game, Glorious Saga. The Overwatch developer alleges that the game is a "massive infringement" of its Warcraft intellectual property, stating that "they created a game whose content is almost entirely copied from the Warcraft games and related products."
- Polygon reports that Blizzard is seeking a court order to stop the infringement and maximum damages for the "serious and irreparable harm to Blizzard and its business.
- "Defendants did not just copy a few discrete elements from Blizzard's Warcraft games," the company claims in the suit. "Every character in the Infringing Game was copied from a character from the Warcraft games, and many even bear the names of popular characters from the Warcraft games such as Jaina Proudmoore, Gul'dan, and Malfurion." Blizzard is seeking "$150,000 per infringed work." The image below is taken from the lawsuit, showing side-by-side comparisons between the offending character designs.
- "Every monster, creature, animal and vehicle in the Infringing Game was copied from the Warcraft Games. Weapons, amulets, and other objects were taken straight from the Warcraft games, without pretense. Audio cues and sound effects from the Warcraft games were reproduced for the Infringing Game."
- The suit claims that the defendants have "profited handsomely" from Glorious Saga and its alleged copyright infringement. Even the game's mobile icon recreates the cover for World of Warcraft's Battle of Azeroth expansion, depicting a human and orc locking eyes while snarling at each other. Blizzard alleges that the use of Warcraft material was "willful and intentional."
- Five companies and two individuals are named in the suit, including Glorious Saga developer InstantFuns, and Sina Games--a subsidiary of Chinese software and tech company Sina Corp. Blizzard alleges that this isn't an isolated incident for the developer either, as it claims the company also advertises various unlicensed mobile games using the names and characters of well-known IP, such as Yu-Gi Oh!, Naruto, and Pokemon. Glorious Saga is just "among the latest" to have done so.
- Blizzard believes many of the defendants are simply shell companies created "as part of an overarching scheme to deceive Blizzard or members of the public," with the two individuals responsible for running them also named in the suit. Each of the defendants is based outside of the United States, but Blizzard has chosen to file the suit in the Central California US District Court as each company conducted its business through US- and California-based companies, using Google Play and Facebook to distribute and market Glorious Saga to US customers.

- Blizzard DOWN: WoW Classic Server Status latest, DDOS attack confirmed today | Gaming | Entertainment | Express.co.uk
- Blizzard servers are reportedly down for WoW Classic (Image: BLIZZARD)
- UPDATE: Blizzard has now confirmed that WoW Classic servers are suffering from a DDOS attack today.
- "We are currently monitoring a DDOS attack against network providers which is affecting latency/connections to our games," a message from the support team reads.
- "We apologise once again for the inconvenience caused by today's outages, we're working to resolve this ASAP."
- ORIGINAL: Blizzard services have been affected by a server outage today, mainly hitting WoW Classic players in the United States.
- WoW Classic servers are reportedly down in the US, affecting the biggest Realms available.
- It's currently unclear what is causing today's server issues or how long they might last.
- One Twitter account is taking credit for the server disruption today and claiming a DDOS attack.
- They provided a 30 minutes warning before the WoW Classic Server Status problem were first flagged.
- Much of today's problems can be linked to this claim, but it isn't possible to completely confirm it until Blizzard themselves provide details.
- A distributed denial of service attack is an attempt to bring down a large network by overwhelming it with bogus requests.
- The most common way to pull this off is by using botnets and creating fake traffic, making it impossible for the service to fulfil its standard commands.
- It's unclear if today's problems on WoW Classic servers have been caused by such an attack, although that is what the fanbase suspect has happened.
- ''I'm getting the error WOW51900102 when I try to log in. Is there anything I can do to fix it?'' one user writes.
- Plenty of DDOS attacks have happened in the past and affected massive gaming networks, including Steam, PSN and Xbox Live.
- The official WoW Classic Realm Status website run by Blizzard doesn't currently list any as being offline, and there is no ETA on when WoW Classic servers will be back online today.
- "This page lists all available World of Warcraft realms and has information on whether or not a realm is up or down. You can find more information about realm status and scheduled maintenances in the Service Status Forum.
- "If your realm is listed as down, rest assured that we're aware of it and working diligently to bring it back online as quickly as possible."

- Game Stop Restructures
- Source: Game Informer News
- Dear Game Informer Community,
- Yesterday, as part of a GameStop restructuring plan, our parent company eliminated the positions of about 120 employees across its various offices. We lost seven members of our team '' our cohorts, compatriots, and friends (out of our 38 Team Members). They shaped us and made us who we are today, just like every member of the Game Informer team who passes through this company.
- Here is the official statement from GameStop:
- As part of the previously announced GameStop Reboot initiative to transform our business for the future and improve our financial performance, we can confirm a workforce reduction was implemented impacting more than 120 corporate staff positions, representing approximately 14% of our total associate base at our company headquarters as well as at some other offices.
- While these changes are difficult, they were necessary to reduce costs and better align the organization with our efforts to optimize the business to meet our future objectives and success factors. We recognize that this is a difficult day for our company and particularly for those associates impacted. We appreciate their dedication and service to GameStop and are committed to supporting them during this time of transition.
- I'm saddened by yesterday's news; the Game Informer team means the world to me. You, our readers who have supported us over the years '' mean the world to us. I can't thank them or you enough.
- We appreciate the love that has poured out for GI and the affected team members: Matt Bertz, Elise Favis, Javy Gwaltney, Kyle Hilliard, Imran Khan, Jeff Marchiafava, and Suriel Vazquez. They are so talented and so passionate '' please support them if you are hiring. Each of them has my highest, most glowing recommendation.
- For now, Game Informer lives to fight another day. Your support is appreciated.

- 'Storm Area 51' event prompts emergency planning | king5.com
- NATION-WORLD Tuesday marked one month until the date for the 'Storm Area 51' Facebook event and officials aren't taking any chances.
- Officials in the remote Nevada county where Area 51 is located are taking emergency measures to prepare for the possible influx of thousands of visitors stemming from a viral Facebook event.
- At least two million people have signed up for the "Storm Area 51" Facebook event, which jokingly suggested trying to get a big group of people to storm the secretive military base on Sept. 20.
- The event creators are now instead promoting a three-day festival in Rachel, Nevada, which is the closest inhabited location to Area 51. They've dubbed it "Alienstock."
- On Monday, the Lincoln County Commission conditionally approved an event permit for Alienstock and another for the UFology Expo, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
- Commissioners also pre-signed an emergency declaration so officials can reach out to the state for assistance, in case the event depletes the resources of the county where just 5,200 people live, the Reno Gazette Journal reported.
- Lincoln County Commission Chairman Varlin Higbee told the Review-Journal they expect up to 40,000 people invading the area for the two events.
- ''Oh, we're taking this seriously,'' Higbee told the Las Vegas Review-Journal . ''With the possibility of 35,000 to 40,000 people showing up, yeah, this is serious.''
- Eric Holt, county emergency manager, said he asked commissioners to ''pre-sign'' the declaration so that if they do decide to declare an emergency they wouldn't have to wait for the next commission meeting.
- No matter how many people decide to actually come to the area, officials stress that no one should actually try to storm the military base.
- When the event began to take off in July, the U.S. Air Force made it clear they aren't joking around either. A spokeswoman told The Washington Post at the time that "The U.S. Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets."
- The Flamin' Hot Cheetos Movie is Not What You Think (It's Better) - Nerdist
- The Flamin' Hot Cheetos Movie is Not What You Think (It's Better)
- Yes, they really are going to make a movie about Flamin' Hot Cheetos. And yes, that sounds silly, especially when you imagine it kicking off a Connected Snack Universe that ends with the Doritos Los Tacos as the big bad villain of the franchise. However, the real story behind the film'--which will see Eva Longoria make her featured film directorial debut'--makes a lot more sense for the big screen than a popular convenience store food item. It's the tale of an immigrant's son whose idea saved a company and changed an industry in a timely story that touches on big business and the American dream.
- Deadline reports Longoria, who has previously directed for television, won the coveted job to lead Flamin' Hot, which will tell the real-life tale of Richard Monta±ez. He was unable to read or write when he began working as a janitor at a Frito-Lay plant at the age of 18 in 1976. However, everything changed for him when he asked to accompany a salesman on a trip in the mid-80s. During that outing, he realized the struggling Frito-Lay didn't sell any spiced snacks and was ignoring the Latino market entirely. After experimenting at home with his own Mexican seasoning, he made the bold decision to call the CEO personally to share his idea. What happened next, including a successful pitch to the company's biggest of wigs, was covered in Zachary Crockett's story at The Hustle in 2017.
- The snacks proved a massive, lucrative success, one frequently emulated since, and over the years Monta±ez rose to the title of Vice President of Multicultural Sales for PepsiCo America, which owns Frito-Lay.
- The movie, which DeVon Franklin will produce at Fox under his Franklin Entertainment label, reportedly chose Longoria thanks to ''her authentic approach'' to telling the story of Monta±ez and his wife, Judy.
- So yes, they're technically making a movie about Flamin' Hot Cheetos, but no, it's not what you think. Like a spicy chip versus a plain one, it's much, much better.

- A Clarification on the Sony/Disney SPIDER-MAN Breakup! - Nerdist
- A Clarification on the Sony/Disney SPIDER-MAN Breakup!
- UPDATE, 8/21/19: Following yesterday's initial news, Sony and Marvel had ended their Spider-Man partnership, Variety reported negotiations were far from over. Since then, Sony has addressed the breakup publicly, and while the news isn't what most fans wanted (or expected) to hear, there's still reason to be optimistic a reconciliation could eventually happen.
- According to Sony's three part message on Twitter, reports about how much they want Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige involved with the next Spider-Man movie are wrong, primarily because the problem is they want him to be a big part of it.
- Much of today's news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige's involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney's decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film. (1/3)
- '-- Sony Pictures (@SonyPictures) August 21, 2019
- We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him '' including all their newly added Marvel properties '' do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own. (2/3)
- '-- Sony Pictures (@SonyPictures) August 21, 2019
- Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue. (3/3)
- '-- Sony Pictures (@SonyPictures) August 21, 2019
- There's a whole lot going on here for such a brief statement.
- First, Sony is putting the blame for this breakup at Disney's castle gate, because they claim Disney won't allow Kevin Feige to produce the next Spider-Man movie since he's so busy following the company's acquisition of Fox. It's not surprising Sony would insist on Feige continuing to take on such an important role in the franchise, since everything he touches turns to both box office and critical gold.
- However, this statement does not address any of the reports of Disney wanting a bigger piece of the financial pie to continue working with Sony. If Sony insists on Feige being prominently involved in the making of the movie, and Disney wants more money overall, using him as leverage could be their best bargaining chip.
- This simply sounds like a negotiation that still has plenty of time to resolve, except one side decided making this whole ordeal public will benefit them. We're guessing it was Sony, based on who looks ''worse'' so far. Public pressure seems to be pointed to Disney since they already own everything and can't exactly cry poor. Plus Sony has said, ''We want their guy in charge!'' and that doesn't seem unreasonable.
- What's most important is this statement neither confirms nor denies the dual-Spidey production, the one that has worked so well for both sides, is definitely done for good. There isn't even a filming date for Spider-Man 3: No Home in the MCU, and all it takes is one phone call to get the band back together.
- One call and probably a big check.
- 8/20/2019 '' You would hope a film franchise starring a beloved character that just made over a billion dollars with its latest film would offer enough money to go around for everyone involved, but that was clearly too much for fans of Spider-Man to ask for.
- Deadline reports that Marvel and Sony have parted ways when it comes to Peter Parker after Disney asked for a larger stake as a co-financier. Sony apparently wanted to keep the previous arrangement '' which has allowed Tom Holland's webbed-slinger to be an integral part of the MCU '' and Disney walked away from the old deal. As a result, both Marvel and its head honcho Kevin Feige, the man who can do no wrong these days, will no longer work as an executive producer for any future live-action Spider-Man movies, of which Sony has at least two more planned with both Holland and director Jon Watts.
- Spider-Man in Columbia Pictures' SPIDER-MAN: ' FAR FROM HOME
- According to Deadline, Disney wanted a ''50/50 co-financing arrangement,'' and they two studios even discussed the possibility of this extending to other Sony-owned Spider-Man characters. That not only went nowhere, it was the end of everything.
- ''Sony turned that offer down flat, and I don't believe they even came back to the table to figure out a compromise. Led by Tom Rothman and Tony Vinciquerra, Sony just simply didn't want to share its biggest franchise. Sony proposed keeping the arrangement going under the current terms where Marvel receives in the range of 5% of first dollar gross, sources said. Disney refused.''While it sounds like Tom Holland isn't going anywhere anytime soon, it's unclear what this means for the future of the MCU at this time. ''Nick Fury'' was a major figure in Far From Home, which promised an even bigger role for Peter Parker in the future of the franchise. Unless things change, that will now be both Spider-Man and Tom Holland's swan song instead.
- At least it was a hell of a way to go out, though the fact the two studios were able t pull off that ending together makes this even dumber and pettier the more we think about it. Maybe if it made two billion they could have worked something out.
- To describe this breakup as disappointing would be a Hulk-sized understatement. Not only has Spider-Man been an integral part of the MCU since his introduction in Captain America: Civil War, he played a major role in Avengers: Infinity War, and continued to be the source of some of the MCU's most emotional moments in Endgame. And the two end credits scenes from Far From Home, one that seemed to possibly open up the Marvel multiverse and the other the possible introduction of S.W.O.R.D., might have been the single most exciting movie in the entire MCU.
- To think that's all over now, and we won't see Tom Holland team up with Happy or any of the Avengers ever again, almost seems unfathomable.

- Ewan McGregor Will Return As Obi-Wan Kenobi In STAR WARS Disney+ Series - Nerdist
- Ewan McGregor Will Return As Obi-Wan Kenobi In STAR WARS Disney+ Series
- The rumors have been swirling for years, crescendoed in the past few months, and are now (mostly) confirmed. According to Variety, Ewan McGregor is officially in talks to rejoin the Star Wars universe as Obi-Wan Kenobi for a limited series on the upcoming streaming service Disney+.
- This is great news for Star Wars fans. Even prequel haters generally tend to agree that McGregor's performance as Kenobi''a famous Jedi knight, master to Anakin Skywalker, and eventual mentor to Luke''is a standout. McGregor portrayed the prequel-era version of the character in three films: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. The part was originally played by Alec Guinness in the original trilogy, who tackled an older version of the character.
- According to Variety, no additional information about the series is currently available. In the past, there were rumors that Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry would direct the series, but his name was not mentioned in the report. Disney+ has a planned panel at next week's D23 conference in Anaheim, where we'll likely get our first official news from the Mouse House about the series.
- If the rumors are true, the Ob-Wan series would be the third official live-action series set for the Disney+ service. This November, Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian will premiere, followed by a series based on Rogue One's Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna. McGregor will next appear in The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep''based on the novel by Stephen King''out this November.
- We're thrilled to hear that McGregor is stepping back into the galaxy far, far away, and excited to learn what else Disney has in store for us after The Rise of Skywalker closes out the episodic films in December. With McGregor aboard, the future of Star Wars is looking bright.

- EA Received A Guinness World Record For Most Downvoted Comment In Reddit History
- Back in 2017, EA was dealing with the mess that was Star Wars Battlefront II and its hated loot boxes. During that time an unknown community manager used the official EA Community Team Reddit account to respond to a complaint about unlocking characters. Over 600k downvotes and two years later, EA's infamous comment has officially earned a Guinness World Record.
